Scenario-Based Example

Storytelling

Scenario-based learning is a powerful design approach because it enables learners to practice real-life situations in a controlled and safe environment. It also promotes learning at the application level (not just recall) to increase critical thinking and drive performance.

To make content more “sticky” for the learner, I use scenario-based learning with a storytelling approach, particularly in a narrative style (rather than parable or allegory types of storytelling).

Character Personas

I create personas with background stories for the main characters to make the narrative more realistic and relatable. The main characters typically appear throughout the narrative to provide consistency and interest. Other minor characters are added as needed for specific interactions or scenario-based questions.

Characters provide an opportunity to reach a wider audience by selecting characters and creating personas that are diverse, engaging, and realistic.

Based on these principles, I’ve created a scenario-based vignette for a fictitious financial call center.
